Overview
Join Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team as a Critical Environment Technician (CET), where you'll be pivotal in sustaining the critical infrastructure of our Data Centers. Your role encompasses collaboration with suppliers and management to tackle operational, safety, and risk-related challenges, mentoring junior technicians, hands-on maintenance, incident response coordination, and leveraging monitoring systems to ensure equipment performance. This position requires on-site presence at one of our data centers.
CO+I drives the backbone of Microsoft's cloud services, supporting platforms such as Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and Azure. Key Responsibilities
- Act as a specialist handling advanced tasks independently in a major CE operational area such as electrical, mechanical, controls, or generators.
- Conduct routine inspections of critical environment facility equipment, including HVAC and mechanical systems, and escalate any unsafe or abnormal findings according to policy.
- Manage equipment assets and work orders through internal computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Lead rapid onsite incident responses for anomalies affecting operations, coordinating repairs autonomously with other facilities experts.
- Develop or enhance emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to CE operations.
- Execute planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance and repairs on CE equipment, following established procedures and escalating issues when needed.
- Maintain thorough troubleshooting knowledge of equipment, systems, and components within trained disciplines.
- Mentor junior colleagues on system troubleshooting and problem resolution.
- Adhere to safety and security protocols such as job hazard assessments (JHAs), environmental health and safety standards, and toolbox talks, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and company requirements.

Qualifications
- Minimum of a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent (TAFE or similar).
- At least 1 year of relevant experience in mission-critical service environments such as data centers, manufacturing, hospitals, oil and gas, or pharmaceuticals.
- Minimum of 1 year of specialized work experience in fields like mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or controls.
Preferred Qualifications include:
- High School Diploma or equivalent plus 3+ years in mission-critical environments OR an Associate's Degree, trade certification, or higher with 4+ years of related experience.
- 3+ years of specialized industry experience in areas such as mechanical, electrical, HVAC, or controls.
Background and Security Checks
- Must pass Microsoft's Cloud Background Check initially and every two years thereafter.
- Verification of Australian Citizenship, including a valid Australian Passport, to meet federal government security requirements.
- Possibility of enhanced security clearance via the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency.
