Job description
Position Overview
This role involves supporting experienced carpenters by undertaking various assistance tasks under close supervision. Responsibilities and expectations vary with experience and specific job assignments.
Key Duties
- Provide assistance in layout activities alongside the carpenter and progressively learn to conduct layout independently.
- Develop the ability to interpret plans and specifications, translating two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional concepts.
- Help with lifting, positioning, and securing materials and components during installation processes.
- Assemble scaffolding and ladders for elevated structures; install other components as instructed.
- Handle material logistics including loading, transportation, unloading, and ensuring the crew is provided with tools and supplies.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience working as a Concrete Carpenter Helper, preferably in power plant or industrial settings.
- Fundamental knowledge and skills required for the role.
- Capability to comprehend, follow, and convey written and verbal instructions effectively to management and supervisors.
- Hands-on field experience relevant to the craft discipline.
- Familiarity with the safe and efficient operation of hand, power, and layout tools.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Must be physically capable of constant movement on construction or industrial sites, including standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions in a construction setting.
- Willingness to work irregular hours including weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to safely use ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, and scaffolding, including working at heights exceeding 200 feet.
- Comfortable working on formwork, steel structures, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds while maintaining balance.
- Adaptability to work in confined spaces, cluttered environments, and uneven terrain.
- Capable of completing tasks in noisy and dusty settings.
- Capability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds across the site.
- Possession of necessary personal tools.
- Compliance with all safety guidelines and project regulations; readiness to perform other assigned duties.
- Must successfully pass pre-access drug and alcohol screening, medical fitness evaluation, and background check.
