About Qualcomm CAD Team
The Global CAD team at Qualcomm Technologies Inc. in Ireland specializes in developing innovative tools, workflows, methodologies, and software platforms to facilitate cutting-edge VLSI designs across Qualcomm's product range. The role requires deep computer science expertise, combinatorial optimization, and software architecture skills to lead complex engineering domains and technical strategies.
Role Overview
This position entails leadership in designing CAD technologies, automation techniques, and implementation flows aligned with advanced semiconductor technology nodes (3nm and beyond). The work spans interdisciplinary collaboration in hardware, software, and algorithmic R&D, focusing on generating data-driven, optimized solutions for large-scale microelectronic design challenges.
Innovation and Technical Leadership
Operating at the crossroads of electronic design automation (EDA), AI, data analytics, and software engineering, you will identify new opportunities and shape the technical path to produce production-ready solutions. The role emphasizes expertise in constraint reasoning, optimization algorithms, and large-scale software system development while mentoring teams and influencing Qualcomm's design ecosystems.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement advanced automated reasoning frameworks for solving complex VLSI design issues using AI, constraint programming, SAT solving, integer programming, and metaheuristics.
- Provide technical guidance on architectural choices and drive engineering best practices, including testing, code quality, CI/CD, documentation, and scalability.
- Mentor and elevate engineers' expertise through coaching, design reviews, and knowledge transfer.
- Collaborate effectively with geographically diverse teams to align roadmaps and deliver technical initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated expertise in automated reasoning, AI optimization, constraint solving, operations research, or related computational fields with a history of advancing state-of-the-art solutions.
- Deep knowledge of graph theory, combinatorial optimization, advanced data structures, and scalable algorithmic design for solving intricate engineering problems.
- Proven capability to innovate and develop next-gen constraint reasoning and optimization frameworks enhancing scalability and solution quality.
- Strong programming proficiency in Python for directing technical strategy and mentoring engineers.
- Experience in delivering production-grade, high-performance software systems and enforcing engineering best practices.
- Effective communication skills for presenting complex technical ideas to diverse groups, including senior leadership.
Preferred Skills
- Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Electrical Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Contributions to research, including publications, patents, or recognized innovations.
- Familiarity with data science techniques and visualization tools for large-scale engineering problems.
- Experience with C/C++ object-oriented programming and knowledge of synthesis or physical design flows and CAD tool development is advantageous.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field with at least 4 years of ASIC design or related engineering experience.
- Alternatively, a Master's degree with minimum 3 years, or a PhD with minimum 2 years of relevant ASIC design and validation experience.
