Role Overview
We are seeking a Project Commercial Manager for a permanent overseas assignment based in Ghana to provide commercial and contract management, procurement, and cost/value management on site. This role involves managing the financial aspects of the project, overseeing procurement, contracts, and ensuring profitability by spotting opportunities, negotiating agreements, and controlling costs. Ideal candidates will have senior-level commercial management experience, preferably with international exposure, ready to lead a project team effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation and submission of pre-qualification and tender documents to secure new projects.
- Conduct and update risk management assessments related to tenders and construction.
- Arrange financial instruments such as performance and retention bonds, advance payment guarantees, and professional indemnity insurances.
- Prepare and submit interim payment applications, complete with supporting documentation, to secure payment approvals.
- Ensure timely claim notifications and pursue entitlements for additional costs or time, maintaining thorough records in SharePoint.
- Develop monthly progress reports for the employer.
- Manage the Dispute Adjudication Board (DAB), including organizing visits and relevant documentation.
- Report internally on budget status, cost versus value, and prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly cash flow forecasts.
- Engage constructively with operational leadership to address challenges.
- Train, develop, and supervise a team of Quantity Surveyors.
- Collaborate with engineers and employer representatives to confirm and secure certified payments.
- Oversee procurement of subcontractors, consultants, and materials (excluding early/long lead packages).
- Ensure organized commercial documentation management in SharePoint.
- Maintain positive relationships with clients, employers, and engineers.
- Ensure Project Quantity Surveyor duties like procurement and payments occur timely and as per contract requirements.
- Manage consultancy, subcontractor, and supplier contracts and payments from administration to final settlement.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, Building, or related disciplines.
- Strong background in commercial management, contract administration, and quantity surveying.
- Senior-level experience within complex construction projects.
- Demonstrated competence in claims management, dispute resolution, and arbitration.
- International work experience, with prior exposure in Africa preferred.
- Expertise in managing FIDIC Yellow Book contracts.
- Membership or commitment to pursue Chartered status with RICS is preferred.
