Job Overview

The Associate Structural Engineer position is responsible for applying established structural engineering processes to address routine challenges. Under guidance from senior team members, they will use their conceptual understanding of structural engineering principles, standards, and methods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed engineering design, structural analysis, and calculations for straightforward tasks
  • Execute routine assignments under close supervision and mentoring
  • Develop accurate and clear design reports, procedure documents, and calculation records
  • Manage workload effectively to meet deadlines set by supervisors
  • Communicate clearly, seek clarification, and verify understanding
  • Understand project scope, specifications, timelines, and coordination requirements
  • Perform computer-based analysis of designs created by others with guidance
  • Prepare and review design calculations as needed
  • Check engineering drafts for compliance and accuracy
  • Use relevant codes and standards in design calculations
  • Create material take-off lists for primary structures under supervision
  • Provide necessary engineering support to team members
  • Assist in preparing subcontract documentation
  • Help review vendor data alongside colleagues

Reporting and Collaboration

Reports to Project Lead Engineer and Functional Supervising Department Manager. Collaborates with engineers, design supervisors, and designers within the discipline.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering
  • 0 to 3 years' experience in the oil and gas sector
  • Preferred registration as Engineer in Training (EIT) or membership in relevant professional engineering bodies
  • Strong motivation to learn and develop skills
  • Proficient English communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Willingness to learn standards, codes, guidelines, design techniques, and analysis methods
  • Awareness of HSE, quality management, and cost-effectiveness principles
  • Demonstrates flexibility in work assignments including reassignment between departments, construction sites, and fabrication yards
  • Prepared to provide coverage for colleagues during absences and assist on other projects when possible
  • Open to learning and managing new work processes and software tools
  • Accredited engineering degree as required regionally
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards for structural engineering
