Overview
Join the PPD Laboratory Services team, part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, in Athlone, Ireland, as an Associate Sample Coordinator. This role supports sample and standard management, handling administrative duties within the Sample Management department, and fulfilling laboratory requests. Through dedication to quality and precision, you will contribute directly to improving global health outcomes.
Work Schedule and Environment
The position requires working a rotational 3-cycle shift system including morning, core, and evening shifts, with evening shifts every four weeks. Shifts are Monday to Friday with varying hours, starting as early as 6:30am and ending as late as 9pm. The role adheres strictly to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Process various sample and standard operations including receipt, check-in, logging, labeling, launching, inventory management, transport, and sample check-out.
- Assist with the physical return and disposal of materials to support laboratory functions.
- Communicate sample and standard status updates to relevant laboratory personnel.
- Provide guidance and advice to laboratory staff concerning sample and standard procedures.
- Conduct investigations on deviations and complete related forms, determining suitable corrective actions and preventive measures (CAPAs).
- Review laboratory requests for compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and provide feedback.
- Train staff on SOPs, regulatory guidelines, and storage protocols; respond to environmental alarms; and participate in on-call duties.
- Perform assignments accurately, safely, and within deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum education: Leaving Certificate.
- Preferred: Third-level education in a science-related discipline.
- At least two years of experience in a GMP-regulated environment is desirable.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of inventory management and control.
- Familiarity with laboratory documentation and regulatory storage requirements.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to communicate clearly with diverse groups.
- Capability to stand or remain upright for typical work durations.
- Ability to lift and handle items up to 25 pounds.
- Comfortable working in non-traditional environments.
- Proficient with standard office equipment and technology.
- Potential exposure to hazardous materials commonly found in healthcare or laboratory settings.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure while managing multiple tasks.
