Urban Designer/Planner

About the Role

Center City District, a business improvement district in Philadelphia, is hiring an Urban Designer/Planner to join their team. This role focuses on aiding the planning, design, and execution of public realm projects throughout the district, working closely with diverse teams to deliver well-considered urban design and planning strategies that elevate the downtown experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with various departments to create site layouts and visual renderings that enhance programming and placemaking efforts at CCD parks and other public spaces within the district.
• Perform site analyses, feasibility assessments, and mapping studies spanning scales from individual city blocks to the entire district.
• Identify and develop design and planning solutions aimed at improvements to sites, streetscapes, and public realms.
• Produce and present 2D and 3D visualizations, diagrams, and renderings to internal teams and stakeholders to communicate design concepts effectively.
• Prepare schematic drawings that serve as design guidelines for contractors and facilitate cost estimation processes.
• Conduct on-site assessments and observations of CCD’s parks, programs, and public spaces to gather data and insights.
• Support project management activities including obtaining permits and coordinating with external parties involved in CCD-led initiatives.
• Collaborate with colleagues periodically to review the condition, quality, and functionality of streetscape assets and public realm infrastructure managed by CCD.
• Perform additional duties as required to support CCD’s mission.
