Role Overview

The SolidWorks Draftsperson position is a full-time, onsite role based in the Salt Lake City Metropolitan Area. The role entails developing comprehensive 3D models and fabrication drawings for bespoke stair systems, railings, gates, and various metalwork projects using SolidWorks and allied CAD applications.

Responsibilities

• Interpret architectural and design specifications to produce accurate 3D models and shop drawings.
• Maintain adherence to drawing standards and ensure all documentation meets required quality benchmarks.
• Collaborate extensively with designers, fabricators, and project managers to facilitate smooth workflows.
• Revise designs based on input from stakeholders and verify dimensions and tolerances align with project needs.
• Ensure all drawings comply with structural and safety criteria.
• Support production by providing clear and detailed documentation and assist in solving design challenges throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Proficient in SolidWorks and other relevant CAD software for 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
• Experience creating detailed fabrication and shop drawings for metal structures including stairs, railings, and architectural elements.
• Ability to accurately read and interpret architectural plans, engineering drawings, and design specifications.
• Understanding of metalworking techniques, materials, assembly/joinery methods, and fundamental structural and safety principles.
• Strong attention to detail with precision in maintaining dimensions and tolerances alongside excellent organizational skills to handle multiple projects concurrently.
• Effective communication and collaboration abilities to work closely with designers, craftsmen, architects, and clients.
• Comfortable working onsite in a fabrication or workshop setting with frequent coordination with production teams.
• Technical diploma or degree in drafting, mechanical design, engineering technology, or a related discipline; relevant practical experience also considered.
• Prior experience in custom fabrication, architectural metalworking, or a related design/build environment is highly advantageous.
