Team and Role Overview

Machine learning is integral to Quora’s mission, with more than 100 ML models in production utilizing diverse algorithms ranging from linear models to deep neural networks, serving hundreds of millions each month. The team manages Quora's ML platform and ranking infrastructure, focusing on system reliability, developer productivity, business outcomes, and cost optimization. This position allows new graduates to work on cutting-edge technologies intersecting Machine Learning, Distributed Systems, and GPU Serving to influence Quora’s future success.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain core infrastructure driving Quora’s ML platform with a focus on availability, scalability, and optimized performance.
• Enhance distributed systems that deliver production ML models, including Large Recommendation Models and Large Language Models.
• Optimize GPU-based model serving by improving latency, throughput, and operational costs to support advanced models.
• Advance platform initiatives such as standardizing on PyTorch and modernizing the ML ecosystem.
• Create tools that accelerate ML engineers’ workflows in development, testing, and deployment.
• Modernize the feature store to enable faster feature production.
• Participate in on-call rotations to address and resolve production incidents, increasing responsibility and expertise.

Required Qualifications

• Availability during Quora’s coordination hours (Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 3 PM Pacific Time).
• Expected graduation in 2025 or 2026 with a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
• Strong enthusiasm for large-scale distributed systems, infrastructure, and machine learning technologies.
• Proficiency or quick adaptability to programming in Python, Go, or C++.
• A commitment to continual learning and team improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous software engineering involvement via internships, employment, open-source projects, or coding contests.
• Familiarity with ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, or cloud services like AWS.
• Background in performance optimization including profiling and benchmarking.
• Alignment with Quora’s mission and vision.

US salaries range from $97,600 to $139,000 USD plus equity and benefits.
For candidates based in Toronto or Vancouver, Canada, salaries range from $125,320 to $142,783 CAD with equity and benefits.
Other Canadian locations offer salaries between $116,965 and $133,264 CAD plus equity and benefits.
