Role overview
An established construction employer is looking for an experienced Site Manager to join its Queenstown team. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be responsible for running a major build on site, taking control of day-to-day delivery from the beginning of the project through to handover. This is a practical leadership position that calls for someone who can coordinate trades, keep the schedule moving, uphold quality expectations, and foster a safe, efficient worksite.
This opportunity suits a capable construction leader who enjoys accountability, relationship building, and delivering strong project outcomes. The business is known for a healthy pipeline of work and offers the chance to play a key role on an important project in a highly desirable location.
What the role involves
In this position, you will be the main point of contact on site, overseeing daily activity across a significant construction project. You will work alongside the Project Manager to coordinate subcontractors, manage site flow, track progress against programme targets, and make sure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. The role also requires clear communication, practical leadership, and the ability to maintain productive working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and the wider site team.
Key responsibilities
- Direct and oversee all construction operations happening on site
- Partner with the Project Manager to deliver the job on schedule and within budget
- Manage subcontractors, suppliers, and the daily movement of work across the site
- Track programme milestones and keep site activities aligned with deadlines
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, and project stakeholders
- Drive workmanship, productivity, and quality control to a high standard
- Champion a safety-first approach across all site activities
- Make sure Health & Safety rules and company procedures are followed at all times
What the employer is looking for
The preferred candidate will be a trade-qualified carpenter with 3 to 5 years of New Zealand experience. Prior exposure to managing commercial or residential construction projects is important. LBP registration would be beneficial, though it is not compulsory. The role suits someone with natural leadership ability, a collaborative attitude, and a respectful, helpful manner. Strong written and spoken communication skills are needed, along with confidence using an iPad and digital job management tools. Candidates should also be physically fit and bring a positive, can-do approach to the job.
What’s on offer
The role comes with a supportive team culture in a business that genuinely values its people. There is ongoing investment in professional development and clear room for career growth. The remuneration package is competitive and includes a laptop, phone, and work vehicle. You will also have the chance to take ownership of a major project in one of New Zealand’s most sought-after locations.
Additional information
The recruitment team has deep knowledge of the Lower South Island construction market, including the people, projects, and realities of working and living in Queenstown and the surrounding region. They work closely with reputable construction businesses and aim to provide practical guidance, local insight, and support that goes beyond simply filling a vacancy.
