Role Overview
We are recruiting enthusiastic and committed lecturers for our Social Work program at the Melbourne campus near Southern Cross station. These sessional teaching roles offer flexible scheduling including morning, afternoon, and evening sessions. Reporting to the Head of School, your main duties will include delivering and assessing high-quality teaching content, preparing engaging learning experiences, and assisting in the development of practice-oriented social work assessments. There is potential to teach both undergraduate and postgraduate courses depending on your qualifications and experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand and adhere to the subject content and delivery guidelines specified by Ikon.
- Prepare thoroughly and use experiential and authentic learning resources provided for teaching activities.
- Collaborate on the creation and ongoing enhancement of teaching materials and curriculum design.
- Deliver dynamic teaching sessions both in-person on-campus and through online platforms and learning management systems.
- Encourage student participation, maintain ongoing communication, and convey student concerns to relevant institutional teams.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with various stakeholders to ensure cohesive content delivery.
- Mark and assess student work promptly within the two-week window using Ikon’s online systems, including AI detection tools.
- Comply fully with Ikon’s Academic Integrity policies including misconduct procedures and reporting.
- Track student attendance and engagement diligently.
- Engage in subject moderation, review, and benchmarking efforts.
- Attend necessary meetings related to school, subject, and student matters.
- Complete trimester reports and other teaching documentation as directed by academic leaders.
- Support compliance with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), ASWEAS, ESOS Act, and National Code.
- Participate actively in scholarly activities and professional development as required.
- Follow Ikon’s policies and guidelines consistently to meet performance goals.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by academic management.
Candidate Requirements
- Must be eligible for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
- Hold a postgraduate qualification in social work or a related field at least one AQF level above the course taught, or possess equivalent experience of minimum 5 years if holding a qualification at the same AQF level.
- Have a minimum of three years' practical experience in social work.
- Understand higher education standards and AASW requirements.
- Stay current with social work practice trends and developments via ongoing professional development or research.
- Possess knowledge of effective social work teaching, assessment, student needs, and delivery methods.
- Show dedication to educating students for effective social work practice addressing societal challenges.
- Exhibit excellent communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation abilities.
- Accept to undergo National Police and Working with Children checks if required.
- Previous experience in lecturing, tutoring or subject development is advantageous.
