Senior Software Engineer - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer for a fixed-term 12-month contract ending June 2027. This role is with a leading technology organisation focused on developing and safeguarding essential digital infrastructure that supports connectivity across Aotearoa New Zealand.

As a key member of an agile team, you will move beyond traditional software development by contributing to impactful projects that solve real-world challenges. Your responsibilities will include providing expert guidance on designing scalable systems capable of processing extremely large datasets.

Key Responsibilities

• Offer expert architectural and technical input on system designs and network data tools.
• Lead development projects from research through to scoping, construction, testing, and deployment phases.
• Collaborate closely with both technical colleagues and business stakeholders in a cross-functional team setting.
• Produce clean, maintainable code and design thorough automated unit testing frameworks to uphold rigorous quality standards.
• Create clear and accessible technical documentation and proactively identify opportunities to improve existing codebases and DevOps workflows.

Required Experience and Skills

• Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand is mandatory.
• Position is office-based in Auckland with the flexibility of working two days from home per week; fully remote work is not offered.
• Extensive professional experience developing in Node.js and Angular at production level is essential.
• Practical hands-on work with various data storage technologies, especially MongoDB and ElasticSearch; experience with MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server is highly valued.
• Demonstrated history of designing and using robust REST APIs and proficient source code management with Git.
• Strong dedication to code quality, including implemented CI/CD pipelines and comprehensive unit test coverage.
• Excellent communication abilities and a self-driven approach; comfortable working independently or collaboratively within a team.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification is required.
