Senior Project Engineer

Role Overview

This position involves leading the planning, execution, and successful delivery of large-scale desalination plants, water treatment facilities, pumping stations, storage tanks, and transmission pipeline projects. The Senior Project Engineer serves as the technical lead, acting as the liaison between the Business Development Manager and various project stakeholders while managing multidisciplinary engineering efforts and ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead project planning and execution of desalination systems, water treatment plants, pumping stations, storage tanks, and pipelines.
• Provide technical oversight and manage day-to-day project delivery on behalf of the Business Development Manager.
• Create execution plans, develop schedules, estimate costs, and determine resource needs for assigned projects.
• Track project progress, identify potential risks or delays, and initiate corrective measures to meet objectives.
• Coordinate with consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal teams across all project phases.
• Review and approve engineering deliverables such as drawings, specifications, BOQs, technical submittals, and P&IDs, recommending approvals to management.
• Assist in preparing tender documentation, evaluating technical bids, and making contractor recommendations.
• Support contract administration including variations, cost management, and progress tracking.
• Participate actively in contractor selection and technical negotiations.
• Lead construction supervision activities including testing, commissioning, and project handover.
• Chair meetings to coordinate project progress, report risks, and develop mitigation strategies.
• Address technical and operational issues; escalate strategic concerns when necessary.
• Mentor junior engineering team members to enhance knowledge sharing and delivery capabilities.
• Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls, Civil, and Supply Chain departments to ensure seamless project execution.
• Oversee subcontractors' progress and recommend payments based on certifications.
• Maintain strict compliance with quality, safety, environmental policies, and relevant regulations throughout the project lifecycle.

Work Environment

The role is primarily office-based with frequent field visits to project and construction sites.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical Engineering, or related fields from a recognized university.
• In-depth knowledge of SWRO desalination systems, water treatment plants, pumping stations, storage tanks, and transmission pipelines.
• Extensive experience (8+ years) in project management, engineering design review, construction oversight, testing, and commissioning.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Primavera, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office tools.
• Competency in reviewing engineering drawings, BOQs, specifications, technical submittals, and P&IDs.
• Experience in tender documentation preparation, bid evaluation, contract management, and project cost control.
• Strong skills in project planning, scheduling, risk management, coordination, and stakeholder communication.
• Physically robust with strong endurance to manage site visits and related activities.
