The Project
The New Dunedin Hospital is New Zealand's largest hospital development ever undertaken. After an extensive Early Contractor Engagement phase, Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand has chosen to contract CPB Contractors for the Inpatient Building, recognizing their extensive healthcare facility delivery experience in Australasia and contribution to the project.
Situated on the former Cadbury Chocolate Factory site in downtown Dunedin, the 71,700m2 Inpatient Building will provide high-standard acute medical services supporting its countywide tertiary teaching hospital role. This includes 424 beds with future expansion for 53 more, 24 operating theatres plus room for two additional theatres, imaging and radiology suites. The building's design aims for a five-star Greenstar sustainability rating, incorporating cutting-edge technology to transform healthcare delivery in the region.
Role Overview
This role offers the chance to lead and strengthen the Planning function on substantial infrastructure, civil, rail, or building projects. You will deliver expertise in project controls, scheduling, performance tracking, risk and change management, while aiding project teams to meet complex project deadlines and objectives.
Key duties include development and upkeep of project schedules, performance analysis, identifying programme risks, leading time impact analyses, and devising strategic programme solutions. You will also champion best practice in planning methods such as Last Planner, 4D planning, BIM integration, and performance reporting through dashboards and KPIs.
Key Requirements
- Proven construction planning and project delivery experience in Tier 1 contractors or leading infrastructure organizations.
- Advanced skills in Primavera P6 with solid familiarity with Asta Powerproject, Microsoft Project, and other standard planning tools.
- Expertise in project scheduling, critical path analysis, resource planning, earned value management, programme reporting, and risk evaluation.
- Capability to establish planning frameworks, performance measurement systems, dashboards, and KPIs consistent with project controls standards.
- Strong analytical thinking, communication proficiency, and stakeholder engagement skills to influence teams and senior leaders effectively.
- Previous mentorship and development of planning team capabilities.
- Holds professional certification in planning or project controls such as PMI-SP, PSP, PMI-CP, APM, CIOB, or equivalents.
- Relevant tertiary education in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering, or related fields.
