Senior Network Engineer

Overview

The Senior Network Engineer is crucial to maintaining the stability, security, and optimal performance of the organization's network infrastructure. This role supports IT and infrastructure initiatives, manages network configurations, and ensures compliance with industry regulations. Core duties include monitoring network status, diagnosing and resolving technical problems, and offering expert guidance across departments. Additional responsibilities include participating in audits and providing after-hours support to guarantee uninterrupted network services.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and gather technical requirements
• Design and implement advanced network solutions as a member of the Network Engineering team
• Keep detailed and up-to-date network documentation
• Serve as an escalation point to solve complex issues requiring in-depth expertise and research
• Manage relationships with vendors ensuring adherence to licensing and support contracts
• Lead projects involving external remote hands vendors and internal teams
• Create and maintain system run books and knowledge base documentation
• Work independently to complete tasks following predefined project plans
• Communicate progress and issues regularly with customers and team members through project management tools
• Support 24/7 Network Operations and participate in on-call rotations
• Conduct incident and change management activities around ITIL standards
• Provide timely stakeholder updates until services are fully restored
• Prepare root cause analysis reports and propose improvements to avoid future incidents

Qualifications and Experience

• At least five years’ experience as a network engineer focusing on Cisco and Fortinet environments
• In-depth expertise configuring and managing Cisco and Fortinet FortiGate Firewall products
• Practical hands-on skills with Cisco routing and switching, Meraki wireless, and FortiGate firewalls
• Knowledge of QoS, IPSLA, DMVPN, WAN, MPLS, SIP, PRI, IPSEC, STP protocols and technologies
• Understanding of security appliances like firewalls and proxies or similar tools
• Experience with routing protocols including BGP, EIGRP, and OSPF
• Familiarity with Microsoft Windows networking protocols and configurations
• Strong problem-solving skills including troubleshooting and root cause analysis
• Experience working within the data center sector
• Holds Cisco Network Professional certification or higher
• Familiar with SolarWinds monitoring systems
• 5–10 years with Cisco technologies (routing protocols, switching, DMVPN, IPSec, SSL VPN)
• 3–4 years’ experience with Fortinet and Palo Alto firewalls
• Experience with zScaler technology
• Knowledge of Cisco DNA and Identity Services Engine (ISE)
