About the Role
Based at the Waihi underground gold mine in New Zealand, this fixed-term role supports significant earthworks and construction projects linked to the Waihi North Project, extending mine life and providing long-term opportunities for staff and the community. The Senior Advisor will ensure stringent compliance with resource consents, environmental management requirements, and industry standards, liaising across project teams, contractors, consultants, and regulators to minimize environmental risks from erosion and sediment during construction activities.

- Confirm erosion and sediment controls comply with consent conditions, guidelines, and approved management strategies.
- Identify environmental risks related to erosion and sediment and suggest control measures proactively across planning and construction phases.
- Conduct routine site inspections to evaluate control effectiveness and compliance.
- Serve as the main liaison with regulatory bodies such as the Waikato Regional Council on erosion and sediment matters.
- Monitor adherence to ESCPs, consents, and environmental standards.
- Perform assessments before, during, and post significant rainfall events to manage sediment discharge risks.
- Support environmental audits and respond to regulatory inspections.
- Collaborate closely with construction teams to encourage best practices in erosion and sediment management.
- Offer technical advice and practical guidance on installation, upkeep, and enhancement of control measures.
- Lead information sessions, inductions, and toolbox talks on erosion and sediment control requirements.
- Assist contractors in identifying environmental risks, preventing non-compliance.
- Record outcomes, track corrective actions, and ensure issues are resolved promptly.
- Prepare comprehensive weekly and monthly environmental performance reports.
- Provide expert input for compliance communications to regulators and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in incident investigations and analyze root causes related to sediment discharge and stormwater issues.
- Maintain the highest safety standards throughout all activities.

- A tertiary degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of five years’ practical experience in erosion and sediment control, environmental management, civil construction, or large-scale earthworks projects.
