R&D Mechanical Engineering Intern

About the Role at Design West Technologies

Design West Technologies Inc., located in Tustin, CA, is urgently seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join their team for late Summer to early Fall 2026. This temporary onsite position involves supporting research and development efforts for projects related to the Department of Defense.

Role Overview and Responsibilities

The intern will actively engage in the research and development, as well as testing, of chem-bio-rad-nuclear (CBRN) and weapon systems along with their components. The role includes assisting in updating technical drawings and documentation, contributing to proposal preparations, creating detailed 3D models of components or fixtures using SolidWorks, and documenting machine setup processes while suggesting process enhancements. Collaboration with various teams such as R&D, engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and planning will be essential.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related engineering field
• Strong motivation to learn and work collaboratively within a team environment
• Proficiency in 2D and/or 3D CAD design, specifically with SolidWorks software
• Competency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to gather, manage, and organize information effectively
• Effective oral and written communication abilities
