About the Role

We seek a versatile Ranger to engage in the Biodiversity, Heritage, and Visitor programs within the Central Otago area. This full-time, permanent position is based in Alexandra and involves a varied range of conservation tasks across different teams and environments.

Key Responsibilities

Manage designated project work effectively.
Maintain hiking trails in both remote backcountry and accessible front country locations.
Control invasive weeds through regular management activities.
Upkeep and clean front and backcountry amenities.
Assist community teams when needed.
Occasional extended overnight stays in isolated, rugged backcountry settings.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

Possession of a full driver's license; experience maneuvering trailers preferred.
Experience in general maintenance or landscaping work.
Comfortable using technology such as databases and mobile apps.
Strong commitment to health and safety standards.
Physical fitness suitable for backcountry work.
Proficient in off-track navigation and GPS use.
Good interpersonal abilities, able to function both autonomously and collaboratively.
Additional desired qualifications include Growsafe certification, valid First Aid certificate, carpentry or construction experience, and NZQA certification in operating chainsaws, weed eaters, scrub bars, and 4WD vehicles.

Additional Information

Employment is contingent upon eligibility to work in New Zealand, including holding a valid work visa for the employment period.
Salary range: NZD 61,189 to 67,446 annually, with starting pay dependent on experience and skills.
