Role Summary
Engelhart seeks a highly skilled Quantitative Developer to join the Global Oil desk at their London office. This position intricately combines data engineering, quantitative research, and trading exposure, contributing directly to profit and loss focused decision-making. The role offers seasoned mentorship from senior quantitative analysts and portfolio managers, providing insight into hedge fund data strategies and macro trading methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable architectures for handling extensive time-series data sets, including market, economic, and alternative data sources.
- Develop and maintain robust data pipelines for ingesting, cleansing, and storing both structured and unstructured information.
- Enhance data querying efficiency, storage structures, and indexing for optimal analytical operations.
- Oversee and optimize database systems to ensure consistent high performance and dependability.
- Collaborate directly with portfolio managers and traders to align data products with commercial objectives and actionable insights.
- Identify and capitalize on opportunities to derive commercial advantage from datasets beyond mere collection.
- Contribute to establishing data standards, comprehensive documentation, and automating repetitive workflows.
- Support tool creation and dataset preparation that impact trading strategies and profit and loss outcomes.
Candidate Profile
- Recent graduate with a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or another quantitative field.
- Experience in market modeling, quantitative research, or handling data-intensive projects, either academically or professionally.
- Solid comprehension of time-series data structures, databases, and data processing methods.
- Previous exposure to financial institutions, trading firms, hedge funds, or physical commodity trading environments is a plus.
- Demonstrated interest in trading or direct trading experience is highly advantageous.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in SQL and Python programming languages.
- Familiarity with libraries such as pandas and NumPy, or their equivalents.
- Knowledge of time series-oriented databases like kdb+, InfluxDB, or TimescaleDB is beneficial.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is preferred.
