About the role
FMG is seeking an experienced, customer-focused Product Manager to help create positive impact for rural and provincial communities across New Zealand. In this position, you will be accountable for the performance of assigned products or product groups against agreed goals, including customer outcomes, regulatory obligations, operational efficiency, profitability, and innovation.
You will take ownership of product risks, issues, and improvement opportunities, while leading product change initiatives across the organisation. Working within the Product Development and Review Framework (PDARF), you will assess opportunities, build business cases, obtain the required resources, and drive delivery through to completion. The role also involves coordinating business impacts across functions, keeping stakeholders aligned, and tracking the results of product initiatives.
A further part of the role is helping the wider business understand the products, clearly communicating product intent, and ensuring enhancements continue to match customer expectations and market needs.
Vacancies
There are 3 openings in total: 1 permanent position and 2 fixed-term roles for 24 months.
Key responsibilities
- Track product results throughout the lifecycle to support fair customer outcomes and strong overall performance.
- Spot underperforming areas and turn them into practical improvement actions, including formal recommendations.
- Drive product change and new product work from start to finish using the PDARF process.
- Offer specialist product advice and help interpret requirements across the business, including support for risk, compliance, and customer resolution teams.
- Actively identify ways to streamline, improve, and innovate products so they better serve customer and market needs.
About you
You are likely an experienced product professional with deep knowledge of insurance or financial services, along with a strong understanding of product and risk management. You can stay customer-centred while balancing regulatory requirements and commercial outcomes.
You should be comfortable working with data, identifying patterns, and using insight to shape practical solutions. Strong relationship-building skills are important, as is the ability to collaborate across teams and influence stakeholders effectively. You will also need a proven track record of leading product delivery and change initiatives end to end in a complex environment.
