Role Overview

The FRDC invites an enthusiastic Process Operator to join the Pilot Plant team in Palmerston North permanently, reporting to a Pilot Plant Manager. This role involves operating diverse plant equipment to support new product and technology development at the pilot scale, paving the way for full-scale manufacturing. The environment is fast-moving and varied, with daily changes in plant configurations and product focus. The operator will collaborate closely with renowned researchers and various stakeholders across the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Setup, monitor, and operate manual and semi-automated production machinery.
• Conduct machine diagnostics and resolve operational issues.
• Maintain accurate documentation, ensuring compliance with Food Safety and Quality standards.
• Collaborate across departments and apply expertise in multidisciplinary areas.
• Contribute to new product development and provide business support outputs.
• Offer technical leadership with broad, deep, and current theoretical knowledge.
• Deliver high-quality research outcomes independently and as part of teams, aligned with business priorities.
• Stay informed on Fonterra’s R&D activities, manufacturing processes, and customer applications.

Candidate Profile

• Mechanical aptitude and self-driven, with relevant industrial experience or a degree qualification.
• Hands-on approach with ownership of work and ability to thrive in team environments.
• Effective communicator able to engage with all organizational levels.
• Proactive and willing to go the extra mile, working independently and within complex cross-functional teams.
• Curious mindset with excellent stakeholder relationship and management abilities.
• Experience preferably from FMCG, food manufacturing, or similar sectors.
• Physically fit to remain active and mobile throughout workdays.
