About Queensland Rail and the Role
Queensland Rail is a major infrastructure company integral to Queensland's success, emphasizing safety and high performance throughout its operations. Working as a Plant Fitter based in Townsville means you will be part of a dedicated team maintaining the world-class resurfacing fleet, including machinery like ballast regulators and tamper-liners, across a broad region.
Compensation and Benefits
- This is a permanent position offering a base salary of approximately $95,000 plus 12.75% superannuation.
- The role includes paid travel time with accommodation and a generous daily travel allowance during rostered travel periods.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE), tools, company phone, and a shared vehicle are provided.
- Opportunity to upskill while completing a Certificate IV in Engineering.
- Chance to gain additional certifications such as MR and HR driver's licenses and a CAT3 Driver qualification.
- Strong focus on a safety-first culture, ensuring employees work and return home safely.
Work Hours and Roster
- Two roster options are in place: a 9 days on/5 off cycle including weekend work with penalty rates while away, and a 9-day fortnight local roster Monday to Friday then Monday to Thursday.
- Flexibility exists to switch between rosters as needed.
- All travel time is paid work time, with team members traveling together from the depot.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance efficiently to maximize machine uptime.
- Apply effective troubleshooting to address breakdowns promptly and safely.
- Comply with all safety and organizational policies during tasks.
- Prepare maintenance documentation and generate accurate reports.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Possession of a Mechanical Trade Certificate.
- Holds a current manual driver's license.
- Willingness and ability to travel and work across regional Queensland.
- Dependable, safety-conscious, and enjoys being part of a collaborative team environment.
