Occupational Therapy Support Worker

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is hiring an enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Support Worker to join the Royal Gwent Hospital team. In this role, you will support people on their rehabilitation pathway, help them work towards practical goals, and assist them in returning home safely. You will work alongside registered Occupational Therapists and contribute to therapy delivery, functional assessment support, discharge planning, and day-to-day service administration.

The post is suited to someone who enjoys helping people, can adapt to different ward and home environments, and is comfortable working in a busy setting where compassion, initiative, and teamwork matter. The role also includes administrative and housekeeping duties that help keep the service operating effectively.

Main duties

• Support occupational therapy interventions for service users in hospital and community settings while working under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist.
• Carry out delegated technical and administrative duties as instructed by the supervising therapist.
• Help deliver hands-on rehabilitation support, assist with functional assessments, and contribute to discharge arrangements.
• Undertake essential day-to-day tasks that support the smooth running of the Occupational Therapy service.

The salary scale for Band 3 has been updated under the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and is due to be implemented in August 2026, backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable. Welsh and English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential experience and skills

• Previous experience in a health or social care environment.
• Experience supporting a range of service users.
• Strong spoken and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and take responsibility for delegated tasks.
• Problem-solving ability.
• Capacity to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to apply learned knowledge in practical settings.
• Basic ICT competence, including word processing, PowerPoint, email, and spreadsheets.
• GCSE Maths and English.
• Level 3 qualification, or an equivalent qualification, in a health or social care-related subject.

Desirable experience and skills

• Experience in a rehabilitation environment.
• Welsh language ability at Level 1, or willingness to work towards it.
