Overview
An established main contractor is looking to appoint a seasoned MEP Manager to oversee all Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, ELV, and specialized systems during a significant building construction project based in Qatar. This role demands leadership in planning, coordinating, technical management, supervision, and ensuring the successful execution of all MEP-related tasks primarily by managing nominated MEP subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and direct all MEP activities throughout every stage of the project.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for MEP technical and construction concerns on behalf of the contractor.
- Oversee and evaluate the performance of MEP subcontractors ensuring adherence to contract terms, project specifications, approved drawings, quality benchmarks, and timelines.
- Review and coordinate subcontractors' shop drawings, material and sample submissions, method statements, technical queries, RFIs, testing and commissioning plans, and builders' works requirements.
- Ensure MEP technical submissions are coordinated with architectural, structural, civil, and other specialist disciplines prior to consultant submission.
- Accelerate procurement and construction by actively monitoring consultant and client approvals.
- Coordinate procurement for long-lead MEP equipment and materials.
- Lead multidisciplinary coordination meetings involving all relevant stakeholders including consultants and clients.
- Review BIM models and participate in clash detection and coordination exercises to ensure buildability and system integration.
- Track MEP installation progress ensuring strict compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and standards.
- Resolve technical, interface, and construction challenges impacting MEP works.
- Coordinate comprehensive testing, commissioning, inspections, integrated systems tests, and handovers.
- Monitor subcontractor workforce, resources, productivity, and progress, applying corrective measures as needed.
- Support commercial teams with technical assessments, variation orders, and subcontractor administration.
- Ensure all activities comply with project specifications, local authority regulations, codes, and manufacturer guidelines.
Educational & Professional Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
- Between 15 to 20 years of experience in building construction projects.
- At least 10 years managing MEP works with major main contractors.
- Demonstrated ability managing large MEP subcontract packages on high-value building projects.
- Deep knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Drainage, Fire Fighting, Electrical, ELV, BMS, and related building systems.
- Considerable experience handling MEP technical submissions, procurement coordination, testing & commissioning, and project handover.
- Mandatory prior work experience in Qatar or the GCC region.
Additional Qualifications
- Preferred MMUP (UPDA) registration in Qatar.
- Experience delivering projects such as high-rise, mixed-use, commercial, hospitality, healthcare, or major institutional developments.
- Familiarity with Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS), KAHRAMAA, Civil Defence, and other local authority mandates.
- Proficiency with document management systems like Aconex, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Procore, or their equivalents.
Technical Skills
- Extensive understanding of building MEP systems and associated construction techniques.
- Experience reviewing BIM models for coordination and clash detection purposes.
- Able to critically assess technical submissions rather than design systems.
- Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit (for coordination), Navisworks, Microsoft Office, and project collaboration platforms.
- Strong leadership in planning, coordination, and subcontractor oversight.

Important Note
This role specifically targets professionals with robust experience in main contractor MEP management. Candidates predominantly experienced in MEP design consultancy or engineering design firms—without substantial execution oversight, subcontractor management, and project delivery responsibility—will not be considered for this position.
