Role Overview
A prominent energy company in the Middle East is seeking a Materials Engineer to maintain technical excellence for plant equipment, materials, and spare parts during procurement and maintenance phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed technical assessments of vendor bids related to plant equipment, spare parts, and material supply contracts.
- Examine supplier drawings, documentation, and technical submissions to ensure alignment with engineering standards.
- Evaluate alternative technical solutions for their integrity and suitability from operational and engineering perspectives.
- Authorize manufacturing drawings and documentation after orders are placed.
- Lead initiatives to re-engineer outdated equipment and materials by recommending advanced technologies and modern engineering methods.
- Identify areas to enhance specifications, standards, and overall equipment reliability.
- Collaborate closely with procurement, maintenance, engineering teams, vendors, and manufacturers to address technical issues.
- Review and approve deviations in materials, certification amendments, and requests for waiving specifications.
- Manage technical assessment operations to meet project timelines.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and support to junior engineering staff.
Candidate Requirements
- Degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent field.
- At least 8 years experience in supply chain, maintenance, or engineering roles, ideally within the Oil & Gas sector.
- Minimum of 5 years in supervisory or technical leadership positions.
- Strong background in engineering design, equipment specification, and technical bid evaluations.
- Extensive familiarity with global engineering standards such as API, ASME, ASTM, ANSI, ISA, IEEE, IEC, NEMA, NFPA, ATEX, BASEEFA, TEMA, BS, and related codes.
- Experience interpreting company engineering specifications, statutory regulations, and industry norms.
- Proven history of reviewing and approving procurement and construction drawings, including equipment, piping, P&IDs, and plot plans.
- Skilled in preparing material requisitions, equipment descriptions, and supporting initiatives for materials cataloguing, standardization, and variety reduction.
- In-depth understanding of maintenance and procurement workflows for industrial plant equipment.
- Knowledge of ERP solutions and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Self-motivated, with strong problem-solving ability and capacity to work independently while adhering to tight schedules.
