About the Role

Our innovative client is building the AI infrastructure layer tailored for modern e-commerce platforms and seeks a Machine Learning Researcher to join their data team based in Cape Town. This role focuses on pioneering advancements in zero-shot multimodal discovery technologies integral to the company's core offerings.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate and create advanced machine learning models aimed at enhancing e-commerce discovery experiences.
• Conduct hyperparameter tuning and detailed ablation experiments to optimize model performance.
• Formulate innovative loss functions and training objectives to improve learning efficiency.
• Oversee experiment documentation ensuring reproducibility and effective tracking of research outcomes.
• Disseminate research findings through publications and actively participate in the research community.
• Utilize frameworks and tools such as PyTorch, HuggingFace, alongside tailored training infrastructures.

Candidate Qualifications

• Possess at least a Bachelor's degree in fields like Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, AI, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline, preferably from a prestigious institution.
• Postgraduate qualifications such as a Master's or PhD are highly favored.
• Have a minimum of four years experience in machine learning research, whether in academic or industrial settings.
• Demonstrate a strong history of published work focusing on computer vision, natural language processing, or recommendation systems.
• Exhibit expert-level proficiency in PyTorch and the fundamentals of deep learning.
• Experience with reinforcement learning, representation learning, or multimodal modeling is advantageous.
• Capability to translate theoretical research rapidly into functional production prototypes.
