Job description

Position Overview

Join Auckland Council as a Lifeguard and play a vital role in promoting safety and enjoyment at our aquatic centers. This position not only ensures the wellbeing of our visitors but also helps us fulfill the goal of getting "More Aucklanders more active, more often." Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining a secure environment, enforcing rules, and assisting in emergencies within our facilities.

Key Duties

  • Actively monitor the pool and surrounding areas to maintain a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive engagement with visitors.
  • Educate patrons regarding pool safety and enforce regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to any first aid situations or emergencies.
  • Keep the pool and its surrounding facilities clean and orderly at all times.

Candidate Profile

We seek strong swimmers, passionate about community safety and delivering exceptional customer service. Your role will require sharp observation, teamwork, and a friendly demeanor to foster a welcoming environment. Candidates must have a current First Aid Certificate and Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC). Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends, is essential.

Swimming Proficiency Requirements

  • Complete a 200m swim within 6 minutes.
  • Perform a 25m sidestroke swim.
  • Perform a 50m breaststroke swim.
  • Retrieve an item from the pool's bottom.
  • Tread water continuously for 5 minutes.

If not holding a PLPC, you will be required to participate in a two-week training program from 28 September to 9 October 2026 at West Wave and Auckland CBD.
