About the Role

We are seeking a Lab Scientist on a 12-month contract based in Cork, Ireland, to oversee daily laboratory operations at the Biologics Centre of Excellence. This position ensures efficient and safe lab functioning supporting biologics-related studies, coordinating broadly within teams and external functions.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate all lab activities through effective communication with team members and other departments.
• Prepare buffers, media, and cleaning solutions ranging in volume from 10 mL up to 500 L; verify key attributes including pH, conductivity, and osmolality, recording all data in Electronic Lab Notebooks.
• Complete mandatory BPD and safety risk assessment training.
• Support laboratory study requests from Manufacturing and Viral Quality Control units.
• Manage biohazard waste inactivation procedures appropriately.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment including biosafety cabinets, incubators, fume hoods, freezers, and fridges.
• Calibrate pH and conductivity probes daily and conduct weekly balance calibrations and fume hood cleanings.
• Conduct monthly cleaning of biosafety cabinets, water baths, and pH probes as well as freezer maintenance such as defrosting and monitoring liquid nitrogen levels.
• Monitor and liaison with Equipment Manager regarding any equipment concerns.
• Procure raw materials and laboratory consumables.
• Serve as the primary lab contact for warehouse, shipping, and off-site storage coordination.
• Perform water and condensate sampling according to procedures for laboratory RIW, LPUW, and clean steam.
• Maintain the cell bank dewars with weekly liquid nitrogen refills.
• Monitor alarms for controlled temperature units.
• Assist in the implementation of 6S methodology to improve laboratory organization and efficiency.
• Manage sample tracking systems in fridges and freezers and conduct annual freezer defrosts.

Performance Metrics

• Compliance with lab operation and safety plans with no audit observations.
• Effective stakeholder communication via the Daily Management System.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum educational requirement is an NCEA certificate or related qualification; additional relevant qualifications are preferred.

Applicants should possess at least 1-2 years of laboratory housekeeping experience, ideally within a GMP-regulated environment.
