Role overview

Crosscare, a registered charity and the social care agency of the Dublin Diocese, is hiring a Housing Case Worker for its Family Hub in Drumcondra, Dublin. The organisation supports people with homelessness, youth, information and advocacy services, and works from a service ethos focused on love, respect and excellence.

Working arrangement

This is a full-time post of 38.5 hours per week on a 7-day rota, which includes evenings and weekends. The role is based onsite in a residential setting. The contract is full time permanent, subject to probation.

Pay

The salary range is €39,625 to €49,205, depending on experience.

Key duties

The Housing Case Worker will support residents and families as they move into stable housing and sustain tenancies. The post involves welcoming new residents, assessing housing needs, sourcing suitable properties, liaising with landlords and letting agents, supporting tenancy negotiations, and helping clients complete Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) processes.

The role also includes accompanying households to property viewings and tenancy signings, referring clients to tenancy sustainment supports, maintaining knowledge of local services and external agencies, identifying barriers to housing access, recording outcomes in detail, and working closely with the wider team and service partners.

Essential criteria

Applicants need to show a relevant qualification or an equivalent combination of education, training and direct experience. The role requires strong organisation and time management, familiarity with key housing and homelessness schemes, the ability to work evenings and weekends on rota, awareness of the challenges faced by people moving to independent tenancies, and experience handling complex situations in a client-facing environment. Knowledge of Children’s First and child protection is also required.

Alternative qualification routes

Suitable qualifications include a minimum Level 7 degree on the QQI/National Qualifications Framework in areas such as Social Care, Social Studies, Social Policy or Social Science; a full degree in Addiction Studies; or a Level 8 Professional Diploma in Housing Studies from the IPA. Another route is five years of employment in a directly transferable post plus a DCU Homeless Intervention & Prevention course or DCU Care & Case Management course. External applicants may also qualify with at least one year of experience in homelessness and housing.

There is also an alternative pathway involving five years of employment in a directly transferable post plus a Level 7 or 8 Addiction Studies component course and professional development training in areas such as TCI, Mental Health, First Aid/CPR/AED, PASS, Counselling, Motivational Interviewing, ASIS, and HNA/Case Management.

Internal candidates must have at least six months of relevant employment in Crosscare homeless services.

Additional information

Experience working with homelessness and housing systems, including Rebuilding Ireland, Pathways to Home, HAP, Rent Supplement and HNAs, is expected. The role may involve supporting residents in a target-based service and responding to issues affecting people transitioning into independent living.
