Opportunity Overview
Auckland Council's Healthy Waters and Flood Resilience department invites applications for the role of Healthy Waters Advisor within the Healthy Waters Network Solutions team. This position involves offering expert advice relating to Auckland's three waters networks, including commercial, statutory, property, and dispute resolution matters, supporting both the team and the broader council.
The role entails managing a diverse portfolio that supports the delivery of Healthy Waters and Flood Resilience projects by overseeing property access processes, coordinating consultants, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, and liaising with landowners, occupiers, and project teams.
A strong emphasis is placed on stakeholder relationships, collaboration, and driving continual enhancements to deliver quality outcomes benefiting Auckland's communities, environment, and water infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert advice on commercial, statutory, property, and dispute resolution issues.
- Manage property access procedures including consultant coordination, statutory compliance support, internal reviews, objections, and legal proceedings.
- Oversee reporting activities, budget tracking, forecasting, risk management, and contract administration.
- Establish and uphold effective partnerships with Mana Whenua across projects.
- Collaborate effectively across council teams, utility providers, and partner organizations.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have a strong background within the three waters infrastructure or local government sectors, with proven ability to provide pragmatic advice on complex matters relating to commercial, statutory, property, and dispute resolution. Comfortable working with a degree of autonomy, they can manage low to medium risk initiatives balancing customer service, environmental needs, financial constraints, schedules, and stakeholder demands.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills are essential, as is adaptability in managing change and collaborating with diverse internal teams, Mana Whenua, utility providers, and the wider council community.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Tertiary qualification in law, commerce, property, or related fields, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of three years' experience in three waters infrastructure or local government roles.
- Demonstrated success in providing strategic advice and managing statutory procedures.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement, contract management, and administrative processes.
- Business case development and benefit identification expertise.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
