About the Role

Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in kitchen and dining areas ensuring proper housekeeping standards.
- Support food preparation activities alongside the cook, including estimating the number of students and managing stockroom supplies.
- Assist in serving meals and preparing beverages such as coffee, tea, and salads with dressings.
- Operate dishwashing machinery to sanitize dishes and utensils adequately.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment and appliances are clean and safely maintained.
- Keep service areas well-stocked by replenishing napkins, plates, silverware, condiments, and similar items.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe and sanitary work environment.
Qualifications and Additional Requirements
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Preferably, candidates should have 3-6 months of formal food preparation training and related experience in food service.
- Must either hold or be able to obtain ServSafe food safety certification.
- Having a valid driver’s license with a good driving record is advantageous.
- Must successfully pass a drug screening aligned with the Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.
- Employment contingent upon clearing a comprehensive nationwide criminal background check.
- Demonstrate strong personal cleanliness and hygiene habits.
- Comply with the most stringent state or local food handling regulations.
- Capable of lifting weights up to 50 pounds and performing duties during some weekends with flexible hours.
- Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Ability to interact effectively with the trainee population and maintain positive collaborative relationships with all staff and departments.
- Familiarity with operating office equipment is necessary.
Program Information
The position is part of the Turner Job Corps program, the largest residential career training initiative in the U.S. for young adults aged 16 to 24. The program supports participants in completing high school education, gaining career skills, and securing employment.

This is a Service Contract Act (SCA) position paying between $17.20 and $17.30 hourly.
