Job Overview

The Floor Technician is responsible for executing floor care duties in compliance with established safety standards and procedures. This role covers tasks such as waxing, stripping, buffing, and other floor-related maintenance, including environmental cleaning services as required. The technician ensures all activities meet contractual and regulatory guidelines.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Adhere strictly to all safety rules, company policies, and procedures, intervening when unsafe behavior is observed.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Carry out repetitive cleaning and maintenance activities diligently.
  • Maintain a neat and organized work environment throughout shifts.
  • Follow all internal company protocols and regulations.
  • Accept direction from supervisors and respond appropriately to guidance.
  • Communicate professionally with supervisors, peers, management, and customers.
  • Provide coverage during staff shortages in custodial, recycling, and maintenance functions.
  • Help shift leads accomplish outstanding work list items.
  • Wear and utilize designated personal protective equipment relevant to assigned tasks.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
  • Understand and prioritize customer service and satisfaction.
  • Be familiar with reporting systems related to workplace and environmental conditions.
  • Operate motorized cleaning machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure daily upkeep and cleanliness of assigned floor areas, including tile, carpet, and brick surfaces.
  • Complete assigned tasks within scheduled timelines.
  • Use prescribed chemicals and cleaning materials according to procedural guidelines.
  • Perform proper maintenance and handling of cleaning equipment.
  • rigorously apply safety precautions such as displaying wet floor signs when necessary.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision as required.
  • Recognize and report any safety hazards to management promptly.

Qualifications

No formal education required; 6 months to 1 year of relevant work experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

May need a valid driver’s license and to complete mandatory safety and task-related training certifications. Forklift certification may be necessary.

Essential knowledge and skills include:

  • Capability to comprehend instructions, procedure manuals, and related documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with cleaning techniques, equipment care, and effective sharing of knowledge within a team.
  • Understanding of cleaning chemicals and their safe and proper application.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • The job entails frequent sitting, speaking, and listening.
  • Must be capable of lifting or moving up to 35 pounds.

Compensation and Schedule

Work hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM, totaling 40 hours per week with the possibility of overtime.

Hourly pay ranges from $18 to $20.
