Job Overview

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, within the Division of Community Access and the Bureau of Economic Assistance, is looking to appoint an Eligibility Determinations Supervisor. This role resides in the Medical Team of the Community Access and Eligibility unit and offers a hybrid working arrangement with opportunities to work remotely and from the nearest full-time HHS office.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead and manage a team of Income Maintenance staff.
Support the overall administration and functioning of the Medical Team.
Assist in recruitment and provide training support for new Income Maintenance employees.
Conduct performance appraisals for team members.
Oversee staff output to ensure it meets quality and quantity standards.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of staff benefits every month.
Address customer inquiries and resolve complaints efficiently.
Manage leave schedules, work coverage, and overtime allocation.
Provide coaching, disciplinary action, and staff development initiatives.
Investigate incidents related to employee conduct.
Engage in local and state-level collaborative groups and projects.
Offer policy guidance and training sessions for assigned staff.
Demonstrate skillful use of all software systems utilized by Eligibility Benefit staff.
Effectively manage remote-working employees.

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate must be well-organized, deeply committed, and proficient in SNAP, FIP, and Medicaid eligibility determination processes. Capable of planning, directing, and organizing unit operations, they should offer peer support and possess excellent communication skills, inclusive of verbal, written, and telephonic interactions.

Comprehensive knowledge of Eligibility Benefit Specialist policies and procedures is expected. Skills in additional languages beyond English are considered advantageous and should be mentioned in the application. Candidates must be proficient with computer systems and have availability to travel as needed.

Minimum Qualification Criteria

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university plus at least one year of full-time work experience in an income maintenance program.
Completion of two years of post-high school college coursework (equivalent to 60 credits) along with three years of full-time experience in an income maintenance program.
Alternatively, at least five years of full-time experience in an income maintenance program without the degree requirement.
