Role Overview
We are searching for a seasoned Data Scientist to provide essential analytical insights supporting TacSRT, a Tactical Surveillance, Reconnaissance, and Tracking program. This program employs commercial satellite imagery and sophisticated analytics to deliver timely situational awareness and planning products to combatant commanders. The data scientist will utilize strong statistical and mathematical capabilities, coupled with creative thinking, to extract, interpret, and clean data, identifying hidden activity in non-pixel datasets and supplying actionable intelligence.
Key Responsibilities
- Aggregate and scrutinize statistical data from diverse sources to identify trends, offering strategic insights that provide clients with competitive advantages and conveying these findings effectively to leadership.
- Formulate strategies to uncover and gather novel data sources.
- Conduct thorough data exploration, mining, and interpretation.
- Translate data insights into actionable information for customers, balancing technical findings with solid business understanding.
- Work closely with engineering and R&D teams to enhance data management systems, analytics workflows, and best practices.
- Propose innovative applications for current datasets and develop new data processing methods.
- Implement or refine software to improve data accessibility and handling.
- Perform scalable data research across cloud and on-premises environments.
- Construct and manage extensive, complex datasets.
- Deliver mission-critical products within 24-72 hours to support operations including humanitarian aid, disaster relief, economic crises, and illegal fishing monitoring.
Required Experience and Expertise
- At least five years of data science experience specifically involving geospatial data analysis.
- Proficiency in statistical modeling, experimental design, and predictive model testing and validation.
- Skilled in data visualization tools to produce interactive products for various stakeholders.
- Track record of supporting military tactical operations effectively.
- Ability to operate capably in high-pressure operational settings.
- Experience analyzing non-pixel and non-semantic sensor data types such as AIS, ADS-B, and ADINT.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems platforms like QGIS or ArcPro.
- Experience with Python libraries for geospatial data analysis, including GeoPandas.
- Background in intelligence, collection management, targeting, geospatial and/or imagery analysis.
- Relevant certifications or specialized training in intelligence analysis such as GEOINT Professional or Activity-Based Intelligence Certifications.
Additional Information
Occasional weekend availability is necessary as there may be client requests requiring on-call response during weekends.
