The Role and Team

At Zalando, our marketplace is shaped entirely by data to provide personalized experiences for over 50 million active users. The Customer Insights Engineering team is pivotal in enhancing the onsite journey by crafting specialized data products that monitor customer behavior and interactions across digital channels, ensuring data drives continual innovation.

We seek a seasoned Data Engineer to join our community, responsible for designing, scaling, and sustaining comprehensive data engineering solutions. This includes developing sophisticated data pipelines, well-curated data products, and essential platform infrastructure to fast-track transforming raw data into valuable insights.

Key Responsibilities

Architect and develop fundamental curated data products and reusable data models to support analytics and data teams across Zalando.
Create infrastructure and tools that facilitate dependable and automated data querying, pipeline development, and deployment.
Promote operational excellence by implementing observability, health monitoring, and automated reliability features for core data platforms.
Set frameworks and engineering standards to enhance technical quality, modular design, and accelerate insight generation.
Work closely with infrastructure, data, and security teams to guarantee that all data systems are secure, compliant, and production-ready by design.

Qualifications and Skills

At least three years of experience in Data Engineering focusing on Python and Apache Spark.
Advanced proficiency in writing, profiling, and optimizing complex SQL queries.
Solid expertise in data modeling and crafting scalable, resilient end-to-end data architectures.
Hands-on experience designing data solutions on AWS platforms using Databricks, including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and cost efficiency techniques.
Demonstrated success in deploying production-quality data systems with Apache Airflow and automated continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines.
Excellent teamwork and communication abilities.
Bonus: Interest and practical experience in Agentic Data Engineering, leveraging AI tools or agents to automate and expedite the data pipeline software development lifecycle.
