Overview
The Data Center Facilities Technician specializing in controls will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the physical infrastructure of sophisticated data center systems. This role involves working with electrical, mechanical, HVAC, power supply, and control monitoring systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability. The technician will support the startup and integration of new control equipment while upholding stringent environmental and safety standards to minimize operational disruptions.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, and repair a wide array of data center systems including servers, network devices, PLCs, access control, alarm systems, and SCADA management tools.
- Assist fellow technicians with system analysis by interpreting blueprints, schematics, ladder logic, and operational sequences.
- Manage control monitoring, logging, and alarming frameworks effectively.
- Operate and monitor facility systems, responding promptly to irregular conditions.
- Facilitate the commissioning and integration of new control systems within the data center infrastructure.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completed Associate's degree, trade school certification, or equivalent technical training or practical experience in a related field.
- Minimum of seven years’ experience in controls/automation within industrial or commercial settings.
- Capability to handle physical tasks involving lifting up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and utilize safety equipment such as ladders, work platforms, and PPE like safety harnesses according to ergonomic and safety guidelines.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours and rotate across different shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of industry-recognized certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Certified Linux System Administrator.
- Experience across construction or technical environments related to controls and automation.
- Background in data centers, hospitals, power plants, or laboratory settings.
- Proficiency in scripting languages to enhance automation and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on knowledge of meters, sensors, relays, diagnostic and calibration tools.
- Effective communicator able to coordinate with contractors involved in maintenance and upgrades.
