Job description

Position Overview

Bilfinger is seeking a seasoned Contracts Manager to become part of the supervision team for the Mafraq Development Project located in the Mafraq Industrial Area, Abu Dhabi, UAE. The successful candidate will be accountable for directing all post-contract operations throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring robust commercial, contractual, and financial governance aligned with FIDIC Conditions of Contract and client standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise all post-contract processes from awarding contracts to project close-out.
  • Lead the budget and financial oversight including cost monitoring, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Manage cost claims, extensions of time (EOT), variation orders, and the resolution of disputes.
  • Implement value management strategies to enhance project performance and manage costs effectively.
  • Assist with project planning in collaboration with planning and engineering teams.
  • Contribute to construction estimating and bidding procedures as required.
  • Manage contracts and consultancy agreements ensuring adherence to contract terms.
  • Control project budget allocation and resource scheduling.
  • Deliver comprehensive contract-related project management assistance.
  • Administer frameworks like Schedule of Rates (SOR) and target cost mechanisms.
  • Oversee contracts using FIDIC standards (Red Book / Yellow Book as applicable).
  • Coordinate with client representatives, subcontractors, and internal teams on contractual issues.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate contractual and commercial risks during the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and scrutinize all contractual communications, official notices, and claim documents.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Law, or related discipline.
  • At least 15 to 20 years’ experience managing contracts in construction, oil & gas, or industrial sectors.
  • Demonstrated expertise with FIDIC contract administration.
  • Experienced in managing EOT claims, variation orders, and dispute resolutions on large projects.
  • Previous involvement in Supervision Consultancy roles is preferable.
  • Strong familiarity with UAE/GCC construction markets, particularly mega infrastructure or major industrial projects.
  • Prior approval from Aldar is advantageous.

Skills and Competencies

  • Solid commercial and financial insight.
  • Comprehensive understanding of FIDIC contract forms and their application.
  • Skilled in negotiation and dispute resolution.
  • Highly analytical with excellent cost management skills.
  • Proficient with contract management and scheduling software such as Primavera P6.
  • Effective written and verbal communication in English.
  • Strong abilities in stakeholder engagement and leadership.

Certifications

  • Professional qualifications like MRICS, RICS, or FIDIC accredited courses are favorable.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or comparable certifications are a plus.
