Position Summary

Partners In Health (PIH) is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and socially conscious Communications Manager to lead and expand its communications program in Sierra Leone. This role is primarily based in Kono, with Freetown as an alternative location involving up to 50% travel to Kono. Reporting to the Partnerships and Engagement Lead, the Communications Manager will supervise a team including Multimedia Specialists, a Graphic Designer, and a Communications Associate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic external communications initiatives, including an annual content calendar aligned with both local and global teams.
  • Oversee creation and quality assurance of diverse content formats—articles, audio, photography, and video—that highlight PIH's programs, staff, patients, and overall impact.
  • Manage and grow social media channels by setting expansion goals, analyzing performance metrics, and leading innovative digital outreach campaigns.
  • Enhance and maintain the PIH Sierra Leone website content to support advocacy, donor engagement, and partnerships.
  • Coordinate media relations, managing speaking engagements, supporting media preparation, facilitating journalist visits, and conducting media training for spokespeople.
  • Produce fundraising materials such as one-pagers and the Annual Report, ensuring collaboration with global fundraising and marketing teams to elevate flagship projects like the Maternal Center of Excellence.
  • Support policy, partnership, and advocacy communication strategies, including engaging governmental bodies and preparing reports for the Ministry of Health.
  • Collaborate closely with program managers to enhance grant reporting communications, ensuring compelling and accurate content aligned with donor requirements.
  • Maintain and improve internal communications processes including managing the internal newsletter and fostering scalable, inclusive communication practices organization-wide.
  • Oversee document and file management systems, making key resources accessible across Sierra Leone and globally.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, supervision, and professional development of communications staff, managing budgetary aspects of the communications program.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience in digital content strategy, branding, marketing communications, journalism, public relations, or team management.

  • Demonstrated skills in producing high-quality, cross-cultural content and managing diverse stakeholder relationships.
