Role Overview

We are seeking an AVL Technical Manager who will be responsible for overseeing the complete technical delivery of events. This role involves both hands-on work with equipment during smaller setups and leading a technical AV team for larger affairs, while managing budgets and vendor relations effectively. This position focuses primarily on video technology, including switching and content, rather than audio. Candidates with experience in broadcast, livestreaming, or video production will find this role well-suited to their strengths.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and execution of AVL technical aspects for events like conferences, roadshows, and activations.
• Operate and direct video switching and LED wall content deployment using software like vMix, TriCaster, and Resolume.
• Manage video infrastructure, including routing, hubs, and distribution systems.
• Oversee hybrid event livestream setups, encompassing encoding, routing, and backup stream management.
• Interpret and annotate technical drawings and floor plans, including pre-visualization drafts using Vectorworks or AutoCAD.
• Engage in hands-on setup, operation, and strike activities for smaller-scale events.
• Collaborate with Production Coordinators to monitor AV expenditures and ensure adherence to budgets per project.
• Identify potential cost and staffing gaps early to balance crew and rental expenses for margin protection.
• Communicate directly with clients and internal teams on technical needs and live troubleshooting during events.
• Coordinate timelines and deliverables across multiple simultaneous projects.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Experience in audiovisual services, technical production, broadcast operations, or venue management.
• Strong expertise in professional AV systems and live event production workflows.
• Proficiency with vMix, TriCaster, and Resolume software platforms.
• Knowledgeable about broadcast video infrastructure and signal routing techniques.
• Capable of creating or interpreting pre-visualization drafts using Vectorworks or AutoCAD.
• Proven track record in managing AV vendors, production partners, and technical contractors.
• Skilled in project and stakeholder management.
• Effective communicator with crew members, clients, and stakeholders.
• Comfortable assuming budget responsibility alongside technical duties.
• Willingness to work flexible, including irregular hours, weekends, and physically challenging setup and teardown.

Additional Assets

• Familiarity with AnalogWay or Barco switching systems.
• Experience in audio or lighting disciplines complementing video expertise.
• Previous client-facing roles in live event productions.
• Background in managing AV crew costing or job-level profit and loss accounting.
