Position Overview
The Associate Data Scientist role focuses on supporting data-driven projects aimed at enhancing profitability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Working collaboratively with senior data science professionals, this position involves creating and refining advanced analytical models and algorithms to reveal meaningful trends and generate practical business solutions. Depending on the team, exposure to specialized areas such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation systems, search technologies, or natural language processing may be required.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop algorithms and data models to analyze extensive datasets and extract actionable insights, dedicating approximately 70% of effort to these activities.
- Engage in thorough data analyses to support business problem-solving and collaborate with senior scientists to select and interpret appropriate analytical techniques.
- Apply business domain understanding to tailor solutions that address specific needs.
- Effectively convey insights and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including preparing presentations and progress reports, comprising about 20% of the role.
- Stay current with emerging industry trends, methodologies, and best practices, dedicating around 10% of time to skill enhancement and identifying opportunities to implement new knowledge.
Work Environment and Reporting
This position reports to a manager or higher-level leader and does not include any direct reports. The role is predominantly office-based with no travel requirements. Physical demands are minimal, mainly involving seated work with occasional light lifting.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum age of 18 years and lawful authorization to work in the United States.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant technical field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics is required; a Master's degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
- At least three years of professional experience in business intelligence and analytics is advantageous.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience programming in scripting languages, with Python being preferred.
- Skillful in querying databases using SQL or cloud-based platforms like Google BigQuery.
- Familiarity with predictive modeling, data mining techniques, and analytic methods.
- Experience with data visualization tools, preferably Tableau.
- Basic exposure to prescriptive analytics methodologies, including but not limited to optimization, computer vision, recommendation engines, search technologies, or NLP.
