Role Overview
The Analytical Chemist will play a vital role within the R&D team by conducting precise and prompt analyses of chemical samples derived from lab experiments. This position demands strong technical expertise in chemical analytics along with proactive collaboration and problem-solving capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist the R&D team in various projects and experimental procedures.
- Conduct systematic chemical analysis of samples utilizing instruments such as Gas Chromatography (GC), Ion Chromatography (IC), and titration units, ensuring timely reporting of results.
- Develop and refine analytical methods to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot general and specialized lab equipment, coordinating with senior personnel or equipment manufacturers as required.
- Participate in catalyst material synthesis and experimental development activities.
- Manage battery-related testing equipment including potentiostats and other measurement devices.
- Maintain strict inventory control of chemicals, monitor safety data sheets (MSDS), and handle the safe disposal of chemical waste.
- Follow rigorous safety protocols when handling chemicals, gases, and laboratory materials.
- Engage productively with internal teams and external suppliers or service providers for procurement, equipment calibration, and waste management tasks.
Requirements
- Must hold Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or possess a valid work permit.
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering; Master’s or Ph.D. degrees are also welcomed.
- At least 3 years of practical experience in laboratory or industrial settings, including equipment use and maintenance.
- Comprehensive familiarity with Ion Chromatography, including column selection, method development, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of complementary analytical techniques such as Gas Chromatography (GC), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), and High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
- Experience working with titration equipment for analysis and method development.
- Applied research experience and operational knowledge of electrochemical and analytical instruments used in battery or fuel cell technologies is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills combined with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate effectively and innovate within team environments.
- Proven track record of meeting deadlines and managing project milestones.
- Strong organizational skills, punctuality, and problem-solving aptitude.
- Capable of performing efficiently under fast-paced, deadline-driven conditions.
- Self-motivated, well-organized, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
