Role Overview
Currently in a significant growth phase, ITM Power invites dedicated professionals who share a passion for clean energy to join as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. This crucial role within the Mechanical Design Team involves leveraging extensive experience to bring complex plant components and systems to market readiness, advancing product innovation, and successfully delivering international projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Representing the Mechanical Design Team in design review meetings.
- Collaborating with the Lead Mechanical Design Engineer and Product Design Manager to evolve system and process designs.
- Creating plant layouts including individual parts, assemblies, general arrangement drawings, and standard customer deliverables.
- Working with containerized products, piping systems, pressure vessels, pumps, valves, and other process equipment within plant planning.
- Assisting in coaching and mentoring of mechanical and junior design engineers, providing guidance and support.
- Reviewing engineering drawings prepared by design engineers and juniors before final approval.
- Participating in drawing approvals and managing data through PDM and Microsoft Dynamics systems.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven track record in designing plant layouts and related documentation across various projects.
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, specifically with PDM Vault and automated workflow creation.
- Strong parametric modeling skills.
- In-depth knowledge of bills of materials structures, SolidWorks properties, and part numbering systems.
- Expertise in producing high-quality manufacturing and assembly drawings, including general arrangements, focusing on GD&T and design rationale.
- Experience in designing piping systems incorporating pumps, valves, and fittings, alongside knowledge of welding, sheet metal work, and frame construction.
- Understanding of fluid hydraulics encompassing pressure drops, head, flow rates, pump operation, filtration, and control systems.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, plus a minimum of eight years in piping design and construction.
- Leadership skills to mentor junior engineers and serve as a role model.
- Team management experience covering leave planning, time tracking, resource allocation, and conflict resolution.
- Support to Lead Engineer in team knowledge-building, best practices, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders, including direct customer interactions.
- Systematic approach to mechanical problem-solving using root cause analysis and improvement processes.
- Capacity for root cause failure analysis (FMEA) and component fault evaluation.
- Familiarity with business processes and management systems.
- Excellent communication skills across various company departments.
- Knowledge of change management and deviation handling procedures.
- Superior time management and prioritization capabilities.
- Technical support for suppliers and production personnel regarding engineering inquiries.
- Assessment of components and processes from cost-effectiveness and reliability perspectives.
- Awareness of Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and ATEX regulations.
- Experience with steel and plastic piping and strong mechanical comprehension.
- Proficient in interpreting PFDs, P&IDs, and understanding component piping.
- Understanding of pressure, temperature, flow, level instrumentation and related measurement technologies.
- Usage experience with software like PDS, PDMS, SP3D, E3D, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and knowledge of pressure vessels, pumps, and heat exchangers performance.
Additional Preferred Expertise
- Experience with pressure vessels and pressure equipment certification (including PED).
- Knowledge in product design, machinery directives, and creation of product specifications.
- Experience conducting strength analysis and verification calculations using FEA tools.
- Familiarity with ATEX guidelines for hazardous area classifications.
- Experience with manufacturing processes, bills of materials, and MRP systems.
- Deep understanding of ISO and ASME standards for plant and process engineering.
- Knowledge of compliance, zoning, and construction regulations.
- Experience in chemical, petrochemical, or hydrocarbon industries.
