About the Role
The Senior Internal Auditor at Cairo Bank Uganda is a crucial part of the Internal Audit department, reporting directly to the Manager of Internal Audit. This role primarily supports the audit function by providing valuable assurance and advisory services that enhance risk management and help the bank meet its strategic goals. Under supervision, the auditor is responsible for independently executing assigned audits, covering planning, evaluation, documentation of findings, reporting, and follow-ups.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Audit Manager to establish appropriate risk assessments for identifying risks within audit units in alignment with the yearly audit plan.
- Develop detailed plans for audit projects to ensure comprehensive coverage of critical areas with well-defined audit objectives.
- Design risk assessments and audit tests targeting identified risks to guarantee effective risk mitigation and management.
- Execute special assignments as directed by senior management to support organizational objectives.
- Carry out audits independently, from planning through exception resolution, communication with relevant management, to report writing.
- Compile clear, concise audit reports highlighting findings, policy or regulatory non-compliance, to discuss with management before finalizing reports for corrective action.
- Investigate reported incidents such as frauds and forgeries when tasked.
- Review and prepare periodic reports to the Bank of Uganda, including daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly submissions.
- Perform follow-ups on audit findings to verify adequacy of corrective actions taken.
- Promote risk management awareness among staff to reduce operational losses.
- Contribute to revising and updating audit programs and manuals.
- Engage in ongoing professional development through self-study, approved courses, and internal training sessions.
- Undertake additional duties assigned by supervisors, consistent with the role.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor's degree is required; holding a professional qualification such as ACCA, CIA, CPA, CFA, or CFE is advantageous.
- Minimum of three years' experience in audit or a related field, preferably within a financial institution.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong business acumen with sound analytical and planning abilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the capability to influence diverse teams across the bank.
- Ability to effectively work both independently and as part of a team.
- Curiosity, keen observation skills, discipline, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Flexibility to alternate between solo and collaborative work approaches.
