About UNTMIS

The United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) was founded by the UN Security Council resolution 2753 on 30 October 2024. Its primary goal is to aid Somalia's progress towards stability, improved governance, and stronger national institutions. The mission works closely with Somali authorities, local communities, and international partners to enhance security and foster sustainable peace. Security professionals within UNTMIS play a crucial role in safeguarding mission personnel, assets, and operations in a challenging and dynamic setting.

Role Overview

This full-time, on-site position in Mogadishu is tasked with ensuring the safety and security of UNTMIS staff, facilities, and activities. Key responsibilities include evaluating security risks, monitoring potential threats, and deploying physical and information security controls aligned with UN policies. The role requires managing access control, performing security inspections, and supporting emergency response actions. Collaboration with mission leadership, UN security units, host country agencies, and other stakeholders ensures coordinated security measures. Maintaining detailed security records, contributing to training and briefings, and adapting to the changing security landscape in Mogadishu are essential duties.

Qualifications and Skills

• Proficiency in Physical Security techniques such as protecting facilities, managing access points, and responding to incidents.
• Expertise in Cybersecurity and Information Security, focusing on safeguarding mission data, IT systems, and confidential information.
• Knowledge of Network Security, including threat monitoring, detection, and fundamental secure network design.
• Strong communication abilities to coordinate with diverse teams, produce clear reports, and deliver briefings on security matters.
• Relevant experience in security roles within high-risk or complex operational settings; previous involvement with international bodies or peacekeeping missions is advantageous.
• Familiarity with UN security frameworks or comparable institutional security standards is highly desirable.
• Ability to function effectively under pressure, exercise sound judgment, and sustain situational awareness in a rapidly evolving environment.
• Academic qualifications in security studies, international relations, information technology, or related disciplines, or substantial equivalent practical experience.
