Overview
The University of Exeter invites applications for a full-time Research Data Scientist position, commencing on 1st September 2026. This permanent role offers a starting salary ranging from £43,482 to £46,049 (Grade F), commensurate with skills and experience. The position supports a hybrid working model, combining on-campus presence and home-based work. Role Summary
The Research Data Scientist will be an integral member of the Research Software and Analytics Group, which incorporates Research Software Engineers, Data Scientists, and Data Stewards. The group bolsters academic research across the university by leveraging advanced data science techniques, enhancing reproducibility, and increasing research impact. The successful candidate will collaborate with researchers across disciplines to design and apply computational methodologies that ethically and reliably extract insights from diverse datasets. The role demands multitasking across multiple projects and adaptability to acquire new domain expertise.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates are skilled professionals with a strong foundation in data science and artificial intelligence, combined with contemporary data analysis capabilities. Relevant experience may originate from industrial roles or doctoral research that extensively utilized data science and AI technologies. Preferably, candidates have prior involvement in collaborative research projects with academic partners and familiarity with FAIR data principles and research data management.
