Position Overview
The Andrew and Virginia Rudd Research and Professional Practice Programme within the Faculty of Education is inviting applications for a full-time Research Assistant or Associate specializing in Adoption Research, Prevention Science, and Quantitative Methods. This position offers an opportunity to be part of a dynamic research team focused on enhancing understanding of psychological, social, individual, educational, and community influences affecting children and young people—particularly as related to adoption, foster care, and family systems. The goal is to generate actionable knowledge to support better outcomes for families, professionals, and policymakers.
Role and Progression
Applicants without a completed PhD will be appointed as Research Assistants (Grade 5), with the potential for promotion to Research Associate (Grade 7) upon completion of their doctoral studies. In exceptional cases, those with equivalent research experience may be considered for a Research Associate post directly, subject to internal approval.
Main Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on research and professional development initiatives related to adoption, foster-care, father-child relationships, parental divorce, and family court service delivery.
- Apply and further develop advanced quantitative methodologies aligned with the programme's objectives.
- Formulate and explore new research questions within the programme’s core focus areas.
- Assist in preparing and delivering presentations for various stakeholders, including academic and non-academic audiences.
- Create and provide practitioner-focused training material, especially in quantitative methods and prevention-intervention science.
- Support non-technical communication efforts through the drafting of blogs, policy briefs, and practice guidelines.
- Contribute to writing and publication of research outputs and facilitate teaching and engagement across undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional development activities.
Candidate Profile
- PhD (or near completion) in Psychology, Education, or a closely related social science discipline.
- Substantive research experience in adoption, foster-care, family system dynamics (including father-child relationships, parental divorce), and related service models.
- Experience in or awareness of practitioner training and expertise-building in subject areas noted above.
- Ability to work collaboratively across academic and professional boundaries.
