About the Institute
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), located in Montreal, Quebec, is an internationally acclaimed biomedical and hospital research center affiliated with McGill University's Faculty of Medicine. Supported partially by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé, RI-MUHC focuses on scientific innovation and advancements in patient-centered medicine.
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant to join Dr. Cools Laboratory within the Thoracic Surgery and Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Research Labs. The role involves supporting multidisciplinary projects related to esophageal and gastric cancer, including handling biospecimens, maintaining databases, developing organoid models, and experiment optimization to evaluate therapy responses.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in conducting laboratory experiments and projects.
- Optimize and develop experimental procedures as needed.
- Document experimental results, perform necessary calculations, and compile data accurately.
- Maintain comprehensive records, files, and databases for research materials.
- Train students and post-doctoral fellows on laboratory techniques.
- Operate various laboratory equipment relevant to assigned tasks.
- Contribute to preparation of reports, grant applications, and scientific manuscripts.
- Collect and analyze both qualitative and quantitative research data.
- Stay informed on current scientific literature pertinent to research areas.
- Support laboratory management and administrative duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors, including flexible work hours on short notice.
Education and Experience
- Master's degree in Biology, Experimental Medicine, Immunology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum two years of relevant work experience.
Language Requirements
- Proficiency in both oral and written French at an advanced level.
- Advanced oral and written skills in English to engage with international researchers and produce complex research documentation.
Additional Information
- Employment Type: Temporary full-time (35 hours per week).
- Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
- Work Location: Glen Site, 1001 Decarie Blvd, Montreal.
- Compensation: Salary commensurate with education and experience.
