Overview
The Recreation Assistant plays a key role in supporting recreational programs by utilizing practical knowledge of activities and managing recreation equipment, facilities, and materials efficiently. This position involves assisting in planning and establishing goals for the recreation facility and educating patrons on proper use of equipment and programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Support various recreational activities and assist in planning and setting objectives for the facility.
- Provide instruction to customers on correct usage of recreational equipment and programs.
- Prepare recreational areas for sporting events, act as an official when needed, and help organize, promote, and manage sponsored events, social gatherings, tournaments, and similar activities.
- Manage issuance and return of recreational equipment, collect applicable fees, ensure accountability of funds, and perform daily deposits.
- Maintain cleanliness and perform minor repairs on recreational equipment.
- Carry out other assigned duties as required.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Must have work experience supporting recreational activities and handling associated equipment, materials, and facilities, or possess at least four years of post-secondary education including 24 semester hours in recreation or physical education related courses.
- Direct deposit and a Social Security card are mandatory.
- Candidates must meet background and eligibility standards.
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and special events is required.
- Resumes should be concise, up to two pages, highlighting relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities.
- Preferred candidates will have the ability to obtain and retain a Class 2 or 3 driver's license (categories B, BE, C, C1, D, or DE) and possess certification or experience leading outdoor recreational groups in activities such as climbing, kayaking, canoeing, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, archery, paintball, cycling, and bicycle maintenance.
- Education claims must be supported by transcripts; foreign education must be evaluated for equivalency with accredited U.S. institutions.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
