Overview

This role, officially titled Admin and Office Specialist III, is part of the Offender Management Services at the Department of Corrections (DOC) Central Administration. The position is focused on ensuring the accurate application of Virginia laws and Department policies related to offender sentence computation and release date determination. The position operates at DOC Headquarters in Richmond, VA.

Key Responsibilities

The Program Support Technician carefully reviews and analyzes court orders, jail credits, and sentencing documentation to establish state responsibility and ensure correct sentencing elements for precise time calculations and release dates. The role verifies offender records for accuracy, including aliases and demographic details, prioritizing cases nearing release dates. It involves obtaining required legal documents, managing workflow efficiently, and generating reports. The position supports both Virginia DOC facilities and local jails statewide by maintaining the integrity and accuracy of offender records through research, evaluation, problem-solving, and communication.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience interpreting and processing legal and criminal justice documents such as court orders, jail credits, and sentencing records.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and apply relevant state laws and agency policies independently.
  • Proficiency with automated criminal justice or records management systems including VACORIS, CAIS, LIDS, or VCIN.
  • Attention to detail in verifying data and managing high-volume workloads.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and knowledge of criminal justice procedures and inmate record practices.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Experience and Additional Considerations

  • Background in criminal justice or related fields, with focus on sentencing and offender record processing.
  • Familiarity with Virginia sentencing and jail credit procedures.
  • Demonstrated capability managing high-density records environments and making independent decisions in legal or correctional settings.

Compensation and Location
