Role Overview
The Production Scheduler is tasked with balancing workload across all Moss manufacturing locations nationwide. This position collaborates with Sales, Pre-Production, and Production Management teams to coordinate schedules, ensuring optimal job assignments and capacity usage to meet delivery timelines efficiently. The role acts as a central hub for evaluating production demands and allocating resources to maximize throughput and maintain on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Distribute production work evenly across Moss plants to avoid bottlenecks and enhance throughput while fulfilling customer commitments.
- Evaluate and approve incoming job orders, determining the most suitable plant location and schedule based on capabilities, capacity, and shipping deadlines.
- Collaborate daily with Sales, Pre-Production, and Production teams to align priorities and resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Lead and participate in daily production meetings and major project launch sessions to set and track crucial milestones.
- Oversee schedule compliance, coordinate with department heads to ensure timely completion, and manage adjustments to ship dates or partial deliveries.
- Monitor rework progress to maintain accurate scheduling data.
- Update weekly plant capacity data and utilize business intelligence tools like Domo to support decision-making on workload redistribution.
- Handle pull-from-stock and inventory allocation requests effectively.
- Maintain order and shipment records, closing out backlog entries and coordinating shipping cleanups.
- Analyze discrepancies between estimated and actual hours to refine scheduling accuracy.
- Manage rental equipment scheduling and collaborate in daily Rental RMA meetings.
- Conduct physical plant inspections to confirm that scheduling aligns with operational realities.
- Use analytical tools to analyze scheduling performance metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Propose enhancements to scheduling workflows and adopt new software or technologies to improve efficiency.
- Communicate issues professionally across departments, escalating concerns when necessary, and ensure timely completion of tasks with thorough documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated experience in production scheduling, expediting, or control within multi-location manufacturing environments.
- Sound knowledge of capacity planning, workload balancing, and coordinating cross-plant production schedules.
- Strong decision-making skills under pressure, capable of managing incomplete information when adjusting schedules.
- Minimum education of high school diploma or equivalent; an associate or bachelor's degree in Operations, Supply Chain, Business, or related discipline is preferred.
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory and quality standards, lean manufacturing, and 5S principles is advantageous.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills, with an aptitude for cross-functional coordination.
- Proficient with scheduling and ERP software, preferably FileMaker; knowledge of Domo or similar BI platforms and Microsoft Office is required.
- Strong analytical capabilities, adept at interpreting data to guide scheduling decisions.
- Ability to handle stressful situations related to tight timelines and customer demands.
- Comfortable with occasional travel to plant sites, expected to be under 25% of working time.
Working Conditions
This predominantly office-based role includes regular on-site plant visits. It requires standing and walking production floors during inspections, plus significant time using computers and office equipment. Flexibility to work overtime is necessary to meet production deadlines.
Compensation
Annual salary ranges from $85,000 to $95,000 USD.
